On Sunday, January 19, the central arena in Belgrade will once again be filled with emotions—but this time, not only for sports. Fans of the Partizan basketball club will come together to honor the memory of Dejan Milojević, an outstanding Serbian athlete and coach. It has been exactly one year since the passing of a man whose life was inseparably connected to basketball and who left a deep imprint on people’s hearts.

Dejan Milojević was a true symbol of resilience and professionalism. His playing career began in his native Serbia, with the pivotal years spent at clubs such as Budućnost, Partizan, Valencia, and Galatasaray. He won championships and cups, was named Adriatic League MVP three times, and earned gold at the U20 European Championship in 1998, repeating the feat with the senior national team in 2001.

After retiring as a player, Milojević transitioned into coaching, achieving equally impressive success. At the Belgrade-based club Mega, he not only elevated the team to prominence in the Adriatic League but also played a key role in developing players like Nikola Jokić.

Milojević also left his mark in the NBA, serving as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. There, he worked closely with big men, including Kevon Looney, and contributed to the team’s championship title in 2022.

One year ago, Dejan Milojević tragically passed away due to a sudden heart attack. His death was a shock to the basketball world. Colleagues from around the globe, including Golden State’s head coach Steve Kerr, attended his memorial service.

This Sunday, fans will gather again at the Belgrade Arena to remember Milojević. For supporters and everyone who knew him, it will be a day to celebrate the legacy of a man who not only left an indelible mark on Serbian sports history but also inspired thousands around the world.
