The Polk County police accused the 39-year-old player of organizing a large-scale illegal gambling operation

The league made a decision to punish the guard for violating gambling rules. According to the investigation, Porter participated in sports betting, which is a serious violation of the NBA regulations.
Porter is accused of wire fraud after he organized bets through third parties. The investigation revealed that the player tried to hide his involvement in gambling by using other people’s accounts.

“We take seriously the integrity of the game and compliance with league rules,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

In addition to the sporting punishment, Porter faces up to five years in prison in the criminal case.

It should be noted that this is not the first case of gambling rule violations in the NBA. The league continues to strengthen control measures to protect basketball’s reputation as an honest and transparent sport.

The Toronto Raptors expressed disappointment in their player’s actions and announced plans for an internal investigation. The team emphasized the importance of adhering to ethical standards and league rules by all its players.

Jontay Porter made his NBA debut in 2019. This season his average stats are 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
